For a US-Based Product-Development Laboratory
Client Overview
A US-based product development laboratory is looking to expand its network of contract manufacturing partners for mass production. The company supports its own customers by translating product concepts into functional prototypes and managing the ramp-up phase through manufacturing partners in Asia, covering pilot production and future scaling.
Our Solution
Following an initial analysis, the lab identified Malaysia as a promising manufacturing landscape to support its clients’ needs.
We conducted a supplier identification and qualification assessment and organized a structured, joint factory trip aligned with the client’s production requirements across several industrial segments. The programme was supported by a consistent assessment framework, enabling objective and comparable evaluations across all sites.
Using this framework, we shortlisted suppliers specializing in precision tooling, electronics manufacturing and assembly, plastic injection, and packaging. Each visit focused on core production processes, technologies, SOPs, capacity, and quality management practices, with particular attention to readiness for prototype-to-production transition and early-stage scaling.
We facilitated all site visits, technical walkthroughs, and management-level discussions, ensuring that evaluations remained practical, consistent, and fully aligned with the client’s sourcing objectives.
Results
The programme delivered first-hand, actionable insights into Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystem across multiple product categories. The client gained a clear basis for identifying suitable manufacturing partners for pilot production, understanding operational constraints, and advising end customers on manufacturing feasibility in Malaysia.
The factory tour also strengthened the client’s confidence in future outsourcing decisions by providing joint-on-site audits of production lines, capability assessments and commercial discussion for long-term manufacturing in Malaysia.
