Sourcing & Outsourcing: Supplier Search

India and China have traditionally offered Western companies a limitless number of suppliers for all kinds of consumer and industrial products, and while conditions there have changed several Southeast Asian nations have more recently offered contract manufacturing services more cost-effectively.

As China has become more high-tech, methods of management have moved more online however good supplier management in Asia still requires face-to-face engagement. Factories are often located deep in the countryside, issues such as forced or child-labour must be monitored and in recent times increasing numbers of western retailers require accurate information on product provenance. Production quality and adherence to specification must be regularly audited and this is impossible to do online.

Western companies producing significant volumes may decide to maintain a direct office however that adds a layer of cost. Asian Insiders offers a service where this work can be done on the client’s behalf.

Various Southeast Asian countries offer manufacturing specialisation – Thailand for automotive, appliances and electronics, Malaysia offers significant electronics subcontracting capacity, Indonesia for furniture and lower tech manufacturing however over recent years, Vietnam has become the most significant manufacturing hub in the region. Several larger international manufacturers have shifted parts of their assembly to Vietnam, including Samsung, Intel, IG, Foxconn etc. Other product categories including metal forging and fabrication along with a wide range of consumer and home-based products. Vietnam offers literally thousands of companies in each sector varying mainly in capacity of output.

However, finding a suitable manufacturer for purpose is not easy. Specific competencies, volume capacity, business sophistication, English language ability and even at times, internet connectivity are issues that, if managed from abroad, can lead to frustrations and irregular supply.

Asian Insiders have proprietary tools and processes for searching, benchmarking and auditing suppliers for outsourcing. We have a portfolio of proven manufacturers while we are regularly meeting and assessing more. Our methods are rigorously analytical, based on a deep understanding of our client’s requirements, pressures and culture as well as of the local environment. We do not trade ourselves and absolutely do not work on commissions or backhanders.

Following our report, we will accompany clients on in-country visits and inspections then facilitate the deal forwards with selected suppliers. We support incoming materials control, online manufacturing quality control with regular lot control during production, AQL control pre-shipping and logistical arrangements. We provide a trusted supply-chain management service with following auditing, routine checking and trouble-shooting backup.
